Why Western Australia?
Start your adventure
Dubbed the Wildflower State, Western Australia has plenty of surprises up its sleeves. Yes, there is more to this region than its arid Outback and its vast reserves of minerals including gold (leading to its other nickname – the Golden State).
Think white beaches, rolling wine country, extensive wildlife, wonderful marine life, and a capital city that gets eight hours of sun every day for the entire year. Western Australia may not be high on people’s bucket lists, but it will win you over.
Beaches
My favourite beaches in WA
Wharton Beach
One of the best beaches in Esperance, located in the Duke of Orleans Bay, is Wharton Beach. This is a little further away from Esperance (about a one-hour drive), but it’s absolutely worth it!
Address:
Wharton Beach, Esperance, Western Australia, 6450
Why I like it
I have the fondest of memories of this beach that reach back over 25 years now.
I remember stumbling upon this beach with a couple of friends and spending the rest of the day boogie boarding with some dolphins that decided to join us.
Cottesloe Beach
Perth's iconic Cottesloe Beach is as pretty as a picture. It's one of the city's most popular spots for swimming, snorkelling, surfing and drinking in ocean sunsets over a glass of wine, a refreshing beer or a relaxed dinner.
Address:
Marine Parade, Cottesloe, Western Australia, 6011
Why I like it
This was an ideal setting for a lazy afternoon, hanging out on yet another stunning beach, then going for a walk on one of the pristine terraced lawns.
Twilight Bay
The beaches of Esperance are rated among the best in the world – and Twilight Bay is one of the town's most loved.
Address:
Twilight Beach Road, Esperance, Western Australia, 6450
Why I like it
The white sand and the unbelievably clear turquoise water made for the most beautiful swimming experience. Truly one of the most scenic area of Australia's coastline in my opinion.
